Red Fox

Back to Yellowstone Gallery

We had travelled through Lamar Valley out through the NE park entrance, a little ways past Cooke City. We saw this Red fox napping on a hillside about 50 yd away.

It wasn’t unusual to see a napping Red fox during the day as they are primarily nocturnal and crepuscular, spending nights hunting, foraging for food, and patrolling territories, while resting during the day in hidden, sheltered locations.

We watched the fox sleeping for about an hour. We got excited when tit got up and started moving. 5 minutes later the fox laid down, yawned and went back to sleep.
