Getting Home During The Pandemic

Back to Finland Menu

As we were preparing to travel to Finland in late February we had heard about the COVID virus but because there were still only a few cases in the US and Finland at that time, we decided to continue with our travel plans. By March 12, diagnosed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. exceeded a thousand and the US declared a national emergency on March 13, and several travel bans to the US were in place. Finland shut its borders and closed non-essential businesses. As a result, most international flights were canceled, including ours and we scrambled to find flights home. I finally found a flight to Reno through London and Dallas. Fortunately, I did not contact COVID during my journey home.
