Finland 2020

I was invited by my long-time Mammoth Lakes friends Becky Todd, Mark Long and Scott Christensen to join them in Lapland Finland, above the Artic Circle, in March 2020 to cross country ski. My friend Brenda Gilbert rounded out our group. I flew from Reno to Helsinki, Finland on March 6 and met up with Brenda to see the sights in Helsinki March 7-9. On March 10, Brenda and I flew from Helsinki to Kittila, Lapland and took a taxi to our accommodation at SarkiJarven Majat, where Becky, Mark and Scott welcomed us to our apartment. For the next 5 days we skied on the fabulous Lapland ski trails to various towns in Lapland, enjoying Finnish cuisine along the way. With the emerging chaos that the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic brought to international travel all my originally-booked flights had been cancelled. On March 18 I returned to Helsinki and managed to find a flight to London. I was lucky to then find a flight from London to Reno on March 19.
Towards the bottom of this page is a map that shows Finland and surrounding countries. A second map shows the places we visited in Finland, along with the location of the Arctic Circle.
